Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I am writing this letter to share my feedback about your cookery course, which I completed last month. I would like to mention that your course is well-structured as well as top-notch.
I really enjoyed the support from the faculty and practical lessons as we used to make lot of new dishes with the support of the chef. Moreover, the class was well-equipped and that made our cooking very convenient.
After compelting this course, I have started preparing pizza with different topings and pasta as well. Although I had little bit idea of making pizza, guidance from the experts improved my cooking-style. I started getting better results after following the recipe given during class.
However, I would suggest you to add cookery course dedicated to chinese cuisine, because this cuisine has become very popular among Indians. If you start this course, I will be the first person to enroll in it. Lastly, I would like to give you full marks for all the amenities you provided.
Best regards
Faizal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the task prompt, earning a solid rating. You have clearly described what you enjoyed about the cookery course, such as the support from the faculty and the well-equipped kitchen. Furthermore, you mentioned how much cooking you have done since the course by detailing your preparation of pizza and pasta. You also fulfilled the final bullet point effectively by suggesting that the school offer a course dedicated to Chinese cuisine due to its popularity among Indians. All ideas are relevant and supported with clear explanations, though a few points, such as the details about the pizza toppings, could have been extended slightly further to reach the highest standard.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving smoothly from an introduction to your enjoyment of the course, subsequent cooking habits, and finally your course suggestion. Cohesive devices are used adequately and appropriately to connect ideas, such as using "Moreover," "After completing this course,", and "However,". Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the letter logically. To push towards a higher rating, you could vary your cohesive links even more flexibly and ensure that referencing between sentences is entirely seamless without relying on common transitional markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary choice provides an adequate range for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly and effectively. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as "top-notch," "amenities," and "cuisine," demonstrating an awareness of style. However, there are a few lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as "compelting" (spelling error for completing), "topings" (spelling error for toppings), and "little bit idea" (which should be "a little bit of an idea"). These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher bracket. Focusing on precise word forms and accurate spelling will greatly strengthen your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. You successfully use subordinate clauses, such as "because this cuisine has become very popular among Indians" and "as we used to make lot of new dishes." There are some grammatical errors, such as missing articles ("make lot of new dishes" instead of "a lot of new dishes") and preposition or phrasing issues like "cooking-style." However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the meaning to remain clear throughout. To achieve a higher level, you could aim to produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and refine your control over articles and plurals.
