Coherence and Cohesion5.0
Lexical Resource4.5
Grammatical Range and Accuracy4.5
Overall4.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally. While all three bullet points from the prompt are touched upon—such as mentioning what was enjoyed, the amount of cooking done since, and suggesting online classes—the ideas remain extremely limited and underdeveloped. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the mandatory 150-word minimum, containing only 144 words. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand on each bullet point with clearer, fully supported explanations and ensure that the minimum word count is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization present in the letter, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The response is divided into brief paragraphs, yet the ideas within them jump abruptly without smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate or missing, and the greeting and opening statement are poorly managed, with phrases like 'my self Dharmjeet who recently done' disrupting the natural flow of information. To improve, the writer should use logical connectors and structure the letter so that ideas flow clearly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing words such as 'nice', 'bad', and 'good' which restrict the range available for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, including word choice and word formation issues like 'thinks' instead of 'things', 'discuse' instead of 'discuss', and 'perfer' instead of 'prefer'. These errors and the limited repertoire often strain the reader's understanding. To reach a higher level, the candidate needs to expand their vocabulary range and practice the correct spelling and collocation of everyday terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures are very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence forms. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, demonstrated by errors in verb tenses, such as 'who recently done cookery course', missing auxiliary verbs, and poor punctuation and capitalization throughout the text. Frequent errors in articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader. To improve, the writer should focus on foundational grammar rules, proper tense usage, and correct sentence construction.
