Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by describing what was enjoyed, mentioning the amount of cooking done, and suggesting a future course. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, keeping the response at a partial level of completion. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains 144 words, falling slightly short of the 150-word minimum. While the letter attempts a polite tone, the greeting used ('Hi Sir') is inappropriate for a formal letter to a course director. To reach a higher level, all bullet points need fuller development and extension with specific details, and the length must exceed the minimum word limit while adopting an appropriate formal salutation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in the letter, as the bullet points are divided into separate paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or over-used, with repetitive structures such as 'and' used to link clauses instead of proper punctuation or linking words. For example, sentences like 'i got good experiece on this course and i learned lot things like how we can prepare the tasty food and how we prepare the differenct foods' lack smooth transitions. Paragraphing is also inconsistent, and referencing between sentences is weak. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive devices and ensure a logical flow from one idea to the next throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about the cookery course. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'experiece', 'recipies', and 'competed' instead of 'completed'. The student relies on simple, repetitive phrasing like 'tasty food' and 'different foods', and attempts at less common vocabulary are hindered by inaccuracies. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical range by incorporating precise, less common items related to food and education, and eliminate spelling and word-choice errors that impede clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on basic simple sentences, while attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. Frequent errors occur in verb tenses, article usage, capitalization, and punctuation, such as 'Recently i have completed cookery course', 'Even i dont know how to cooking', and 'Please be update me'. Punctuation is particularly weak, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and improper comma splices. To improve, the student must increase their command of grammatical structures, ensure correct verb forms and prepositions, and apply accurate punctuation and capitalization across all sentences.
