Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the main purpose of the letter, attempting to cover all three bullet points regarding what was enjoyed, the amount of cooking done since the course, and suggesting another course. However, the points are treated minimally and lack sufficient development. For instance, the mention of what was enjoyed ('learned so many things about cookies tha I did not know') and the amount of cooking done ('I done lots of cookies') remain vague and brief. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only ninety-two words, falling well short of the one hundred and fifty-word minimum. To move towards a higher band, you need to expand on your ideas with specific details and ensure you write the required number of words.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The letter exhibits basic organisation with an attempt to separate ideas, but the overall progression lacks clarity. The response is presented as a single dense paragraph of text following the salutation rather than being logically structured into distinct paragraphs for each bullet point. Cohesive devices are very basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'and' or 'here', and referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in phrases like 'Here I would like to send a letter to you for my feedback regarding my course which I was done'. To improve in this criterion, you should group your ideas into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one aspect of the prompt, and use a wider variety of transitional words to connect your thoughts smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, limiting the ability to express ideas precisely. Words and phrases such as 'did the course' and 'lots of cookies' are overly simplistic, and there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'tha' instead of 'that', 'cookey' instead of 'cookery', and 'wating' instead of 'waiting'. While the meaning is generally communicated despite these slips, the range of vocabulary remains restricted to everyday language. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate a wider variety of less common lexical items and precise collocations related to the topic of cooking courses, while also carefully checking your spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures used are very limited, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent errors. There are notable issues with verb tenses, forms, and auxiliary verbs, such as 'which I was done in the school course', 'I done lots of cookies', and 'we have need to learn'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, as capitalization and comma usage are erratic throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you must demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence structures and improve your control over basic verb patterns, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement to ensure your writing is largely error-free.
