Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I really enjoyed learning your cookery course. I wasn't hoping to learn so many dishes in such a short period of time but your course made it all possible. I really like that you had the head chef of The Marriot Hotels guiding us at every step in course and the group competitions were an excellent way of making us experience the rush in food industry during peak hours.
After completing my course I have been hired as a Chef at one of the best restaurants in the country and since then I have been working and creating some new dishes which are being apprecitated by everyone.
I also would suggest to have cookery course being taught at hotels where we would be provided with professional tools. This would create jobs opportunites with experience from a well reputated hotel course and also an addition of cake baking course would make it much more better.
Yours Faithfully,
Meet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully covered all three bullet points required in the prompt. You described what you enjoyed, including the head chef's guidance and group competitions. You explained how much cooking you have done since the course by mentioning your new job as a chef. Finally, you suggested another course involving cake baking and professional hotel tools. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or touch upon areas beyond the direct scope of the task, such as how the suggested course would create job opportunities. To reach a higher band, all parts of the prompt would need to be fully extended and supported with sharper focus on the direct instructions without drifting into generalized outcomes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a semi-formal request and feedback. You used paragraphing to separate your main points, such as your enjoyment of the course, your subsequent career updates, and your suggestions for future classes. However, some cohesive devices feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to join clauses. Additionally, referencing could be smoother to link your thoughts about professional tools more naturally to the rest of the text. To improve further, you should aim for more flexible and seamless transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'peak hours', 'professional tools', and 'apprecitated'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'apprecitated' (appreciated), 'reputated' (reputable), and 'opportunites' (opportunities). You also used 'learning your cookery course' instead of 'taking' or 'attending', which is an awkward collocation. These minor slips do not impede communication, placing your vocabulary use firmly in the middle band range. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on precise word choice, correct word formation, and accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct multi-clause sentences like 'I wasn't hoping to learn so many dishes in such a short period of time but your course made it all possible.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('at hotels', 'with experience from a well reputated hotel course') and slight preposition issues inside grammatical patterns, but these errors rarely impede communication. To move to a higher band, you would need to produce a greater frequency of error-free sentences using a wider variety of sophisticated complex structures.
