Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this to reflect on the cookery course that I enrolled in last month. I gained proficient knowledge regarding cookery, preparing variety of dishes from different countries. I would like to writer a feedback on this as requested.
During this course, I learned to prepare variety of dishes and at the same time enjoyed working with the class-mates. Tutors of this course were friendly yet experts in the field. They assisted each of us personally and individual feedback was provided after each lesson.
The valuable experience that I gained from this course would benefit me in my career as I work as a cook in a restaurant. Since I learned about variety of foods, I prepared many dishes for my family and friends and recieved positive feedback each time. Even at times, I follow the recepies from free websites that this course offered and try to make new dishes in my spare time.
Also, it would be great if school offers cookery courses in particular criteris such as preparing diet food and vegetarian or non-vegetarian meals. In particular, these criteria would benefit an individual who require to gain knoledge in making specific types of food. I am thrilled to applied for such classes if offered in the future.
I would request you to contact me via email that i provided earlier if such other courses will be offered.
Kind regards,
Himani

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task in a semi-formal letter format. You clearly describe what you enjoyed about the course, such as the friendly tutors and preparing a variety of international dishes. You also mention how much cooking you have done since finishing the course by explaining that you frequently prepare meals for family and friends. Finally, you suggest another course offering, specifically requesting classes focused on diet food and vegetarian or non-vegetarian meals. Your ideas are relevant and generally well supported, though some parts could be further extended to reach the highest level. For instance, explaining the specific outcomes of cooking for your family would make the response even more comprehensive. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and fully achieved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with the purpose of the letter, moving on to course highlights and practical application, and concluding with a suggestion for future classes and a sign-off. You use a range of cohesive devices and transitional phrases, such as 'During this course', 'Since I learned', and 'Also, it would be great if', which help guide the reader smoothly through the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. To move to an even higher band, ensure that referencing and transitions feel entirely natural without any slight mechanical feel, though your current use of cohesive devices is already clear and effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'proficient knowledge', 'professional feedback', and 'spare time'. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary, spelling, and word-choice errors that prevent this criterion from reaching a higher level. For example, writing 'writer a feedback' contains a word-form error, 'recieved' has a spelling mistake, 'recepies' is misspelled, and 'criteris' should be 'criteria'. Furthermore, phrases like 'applied for such classes' contain grammatical form errors that stem from lexical choice. While these minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, you need greater precision and correct spelling to achieve a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to combine ideas using clauses like 'Even at times, I follow the recepies from free websites that this course offered'. You show good control over basic structures, but there are some recurring errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, you wrote 'preparing variety of dishes', missing the necessary article 'a', and 'an individual who require', where the verb agreement is incorrect. Additionally, phrases like 'email that i provided' show minor capitalization oversights. These errors are occasional and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your meaning easily, but reducing the frequency of such grammatical slips is necessary for a higher score.
