Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter in providing feedback for the course of cooking lessons that I enrolled this summer. I really appreciate that you are seeking students opinions after completion of this courses.

To be honest I was new in cooking. Here I learned lot about food preparing method from chopping to finally serving on dishes, its not only daily routine work but its an art for our mental and physical health.

I applied for Asian cuisines, before joining I thought that its only chapati and vegetarian recipes. But after joining here I found that recipies are endless and I really cooked and enjoyed Indian, Pakistani, Nepali, Thai, Chinese cuisines. And there are many varieties in each of them and needs lots of precision, hard work, focused and active on each and every steps.

I would be happy if you will seperate the Asian cuisines into sub categories so the learners will get opportunity to explore the curlinary in details.

Hope you will seperate and make it single course.

Thanks,

Hiren

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, though the treatment is limited and uneven, which places it at this level. You successfully describe what you enjoyed about the course, noting that cooking is an art form and mentioning the various Asian cuisines like Indian and Chinese that you explored. You also touch upon how much cooking you have done since the course by mentioning your general application and practice of these recipes. Furthermore, you suggest another course format by recommending that the school separate Asian cuisines into specific subcategories. However, these ideas are underdeveloped and lack full elaboration, as seen in the brief and simplistic way your points are presented. To reach a higher level, you should expand your ideas with more specific details, explanations, and examples related to your personal cooking experience.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic level of organization in the letter, but it lacks an overall clear progression. The response is divided into paragraphs that attempt to address different prompts, such as the introduction, your enjoyment of the lessons, and your suggestion for future courses. However, cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, which disrupts the flow of the writing. For instance, linking words are sparse or misused, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as abrupt transitions between sentences like 'To be honest I was new in cooking. Here I learned lot...' To move up to the next band, you need to use a wider and more accurate variety of cohesive devices and ensure that your paragraphs flow logically from one idea to the next with clear referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate your message. You attempt some less common items related to the topic, such as 'cuisines', 'precision', and 'culinary', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'recipies', 'seperate', and 'curlinary'. These inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader. Additionally, phrasing is sometimes unnatural, such as 'food preparing method' instead of 'food preparation methods'. To achieve a higher score, you should work on expanding your vocabulary range, improving your word formation, and mastering the correct spelling of common and topic-specific terms to ensure greater precision and fewer lexical errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the letter, particularly regarding verb forms, articles, and prepositions, such as 'in providing feedback', 'students opinions' missing an apostrophe, and 'its not only daily routine work'. Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and run-on structures like 'To be honest I was new in cooking. Here I learned lot about food preparing method from chopping to finally serving on dishes, its not only daily routine work but its an art...'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, you need to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence structures with better control and accuracy over basic grammar rules.
