Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to share my feedback and suggestions on cookery course that I pursued last month at your school. I would like to start with the several things that I really enjoyed while learning.
First, The facilitators were very humble and cooperative while teaching. None of them was hyper although we did a couple of mistakes. Moreover, all of them were expertise and well-trained in their respective cuisines.
Second, I would appreciate the quality of the ingredients that were used while cooking. Each varient used was organic and healthy keeping nutritional value in mind.
Additionally, I am glad to inform you that I had prepared variety of dishes including persian salads and chinese platters after completing this course.I really learn preparing delicious meals through this classes.
However, It would be great if the school offer advance course on cooking bakery items in upcoming batches. I will surely enroll for that. Please revert me back if you plan to do so.
Overall, My experience was very good and I am grateful to your whole team. Looking forward to new courses!
Thanks & Regards,
Saloni.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required in the task prompt. You describe what you enjoyed about the course by mentioning the helpful facilitators and the high quality of ingredients. You also mention how much cooking you have done since finishing, noting that you prepared various dishes like Persian salads and Chinese platters. Additionally, you suggest another course by proposing an advanced bakery items class. Because this is a half-band score, it fully covers all parts of the task while leaning towards higher requirements through clear explanations. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended, such as the brief mention of your future plans and the simple descriptions of the dishes. To reach higher bands, you should expand further on how you applied the specific techniques learned in class or elaborate on why you are particularly interested in the suggested bakery course.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear overall progression and structure, using standard letter conventions and appropriate signposting language such as 'First', 'Second', and 'Additionally'. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different points, ensuring that the reader can easily follow your ideas from the opening introduction to the closing remarks. This performance fully achieves solid foundational organisation while showing elements of the next band through logical sequencing. However, cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical rather than entirely natural, and referencing could be smoother, such as in the transition between your cooking habits and your course suggestion. To improve cohesion further, try employing a wider variety of cohesive devices beyond simple sequencing words, ensuring that sentences flow seamlessly into one another without relying on rigid structural markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and specific food-related terminology such as 'facilitators', 'cuisines', 'organic', and 'nutritional value'. Communication is never impeded, which satisfies the core expectations of this band level. Nevertheless, there are several word choice, spelling, and word form inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'cookery course that I pursued' instead of attended, the spelling error 'varient', and phrasing like 'I had prepared variety' and 'learn preparing' instead of learning to prepare. To elevate your lexical score, focus on strengthening word forms and collocations, and minimize minor spelling mistakes by carefully reviewing your writing for precision in everyday and semi-formal contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your response contains a reasonable mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over your intended meaning with structures like conditional thoughts and relative clauses. You successfully manage past and present tenses when discussing your course and subsequent cooking experiences. Some grammatical and punctuation errors persist, such as article omissions ('on cookery course'), minor subject-verb agreement issues ('all of them were expertise'), and mechanical punctuation errors like 'However, It would be great'. These errors rarely impede communication, allowing your message to be understood clearly. To reach the next band level, you should aim for a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensure tighter control over articles, prepositions, and punctuation within your clauses.
