Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my feelings that had during your cookery workshop.

It was amezing experience. There are numerous things that I like the most about your course. First is projector and sound system quality. Despite of live cooking class you arranged this facility and it can helped a lot. Secondly, I payed more attention while you were teaching us as you already gave us copies of full racipes, we do not have to write down anythings.

2 days before tryed one reciepe from your class and I forgote some ingredients and procedures, but recodings that provided by you benefits me. Next week I am planning throw birthday party for my friends and will make Indian traditional dishes from your method.

It would be advantageous for me if you organize Italian pizza workshop. Also I have keen interest in Korean food, especially Ramen.

I am looking forward from your response.

Thank you,

Revanshi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering all bullet points appropriately. You described what you enjoyed about the course, such as the projector quality, sound system, and printed recipes, mentioned the cooking you have done since the workshop by referring to trying a recipe and using the recordings, and suggested another workshop like Italian pizza and Korean food. However, some ideas show a tendency to be slightly under-developed or lack full elaboration. For instance, the mention of trying a recipe and forgetting ingredients could have been expanded further to fully develop the narrative. To reach the next level, you should aim to extend and support all your ideas with richer details and examples throughout the letter, ensuring every bullet point receives fully rounded expansion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a generally coherent overall arrangement and a clear purpose, moving logically from an opening statement of appreciation into the enjoyment of the course, subsequent cooking experiences, and finally future suggestions. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, which helps the reader follow the text. However, cohesion sometimes feels a bit mechanical or abrupt, particularly in transitions between sentences such as jumping straight into projector quality without a smooth introductory link. Referencing can also be slightly unclear at times, such as 'that had during your cookery workshop' in the opening. To achieve a higher score, you should use cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that relationships between sentences and paragraphs are seamlessly connected.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your general message to the reader. You attempted some less common vocabulary items and topic-related words, such as 'workshop', 'advantageous', and 'ingredients'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'amezing' instead of amazing, 'payed' instead of paid, 'racipes' or 'reciepe' instead of recipes, 'recodings' instead of recordings, and 'throw' instead of throwing a birthday party. These lexical and spelling errors are typical of this level and occasionally create minor distractions for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve this criterion, you need to expand your control of word forms and spelling, and incorporate a wider variety of precise, natural expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Next week I am planning throw birthday party for my friends and will make Indian traditional dishes from your method.' There are, however, frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occur across your sentences, including missing prepositions or articles, incorrect verb forms ('feelings that had during'), and punctuation issues. Errors such as 'Despite of live cooking class you arranged this facility and it can helped a lot' show that attempts at complex structures often contain faults. While communication is still maintained, these errors mean the text sits firmly at the current band. To progress, you need to increase your range of error-free complex structures and sharpen your control over verb tenses, prepositions, and sentence connectors.
