Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am extremely happy to share my positive feedback with you regarding the short cookery course.
I was a student in your last batch, and I had a wonderful experience in learning Italian cuisine and cake baking. The course content was well organized and properly delivered with practical knowledge. What i enjoyed most was the head teacher's incredible support, teaching method, and the team collaboration.
Especially, the knowledge I gained in preparing pasta and Pizza helped me a lot when I was planning my birthday event last month. Now, cooking has become my favourite pastime, all because of this course. Additionally, I had an opportunity to prepare Italian dishes in a home party last weekend.
I would really appreciate it if you could offer me the next level of this course, which is the Diploma in Baking and Italian Cuisine, in the near future. It would be a great opportunity for the students who p

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by describing what was enjoyed about the course, stating how much cooking has been done since, and suggesting another course to be offered. However, while the first two bullet points are well covered with relevant details, the third bullet point regarding the suggestion of another course is slightly under-developed at the end of the letter. The letter adopts an appropriate semi-formal tone and purpose throughout. To reach a higher band, all bullet points would need to be fully extended and supported with richer details, ensuring that the suggestion for the new course is elaborated with specific reasons rather than cut off abruptly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from greeting to feedback, past application, and future suggestions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as enjoyment of the course in the second paragraph and subsequent cooking experiences in the third. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, such as 'Additionally' and 'Now', though referencing is occasionally mechanical. To move towards higher band descriptors, the cohesion could be made smoother and more unobtrusive, avoiding slightly repetitive transitional patterns and ensuring seamless logical links between all sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's message with a mix of standard and some less common items such as 'cuisine', 'pastime', and 'collaboration'. There are occasional lapses in word choice or phrasing, such as writing 'in a home party' instead of 'at a home party', but these minor errors do not impede communication. The spelling is generally accurate. To achieve a higher band, the student should demonstrate a wider and more flexible range of vocabulary, incorporating more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic phrases while maintaining complete precision in word selection.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over past and present tenses, such as in 'The course content was well organized' and 'cooking has become my favourite pastime'. There are some minor grammatical errors and awkward punctuation choices, such as the lowercase 'i' in 'What i enjoyed most', but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the meaning. To reach the next level, the writer would need to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and exhibit a wider range of sophisticated grammatical structures with consistent accuracy.
