Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the prompt. You begin by describing what you enjoyed about the course, noting the supportive teachers and specific aspects like food presentation. You then address how much cooking you have done since the course by sharing the anecdote about baking a birthday cake for your friend. Finally, you successfully suggest another course, proposing a baking fundamentals class. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed, particularly the description of what you enjoyed and the suggestion for the new course, which lacks further explanation about why it would be beneficial. To reach a higher level, you could expand more fully on each bullet point with richer details and clearer extension, showing a fully developed position throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and you make use of standard formal letter conventions such as the appropriate sign-off. You also attempt to organise your thoughts into distinct paragraphs for each point. However, the progression between ideas is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, notably through the repeated use of transition phrases like 'Secondly'. Referencing is not always clear, and the overall cohesive devices are occasionally inadequate or mechanical. To improve, you should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices to link your paragraphs and sentences naturally, ensuring a smooth and logical flow of information from beginning to end.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully communicating your message about the cookery course and your baking experience. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'professional', 'surprised', and 'presentation', which demonstrates a reasonable effort. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary choices, word form errors, and spelling mistakes, such as 'feedback' used as a verb ('to feedback'), 'ejoyed', 'espacially', and 'look and taste' instead of 'the look and taste'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict your score. To move up, you need to expand your lexical range and eliminate errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Everyone at the party was surprised after look and taste of the cake, no one could believed that I made that cake.' There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including verb tense and form issues like 'that I have been completed recently', 'that lasts' instead of 'that lasted', 'after look', and 'could believed'. While these errors persist, they rarely impede overall communication. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy, ensuring that verb tenses, prepositions, and dependent clauses are handled correctly and consistently throughout.
