Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to give my feedback about the cookery course which I completed last week from your school.
I really enjoyed the experience of practical lessons in the class room with other new students. Although I had a bit knowledge about cooking, this course helped to learn deeply and made me the master of cooking. A part from this, teacher are quite knowledgable, and they have enough patience even one thing is asked many times.
Since completing this course, I regularly started cooking at my home, and helped my mother in cooking in the kitchen. I have tried several types of dishes which I learned in this course. There was a time when I was enjoying picnic, I prepared a special dish for my friends. I felt more confident among them.
I would be interested in a course on internatioal cuisine. It would be quite interesting because I would get a chance to prepare traditional dishes from different countries, such as India,Canada, and japan. I whould experience the flavour and ingredients of international dishes.
Thank you for provding such a useful and an enjoyable course. I hope that you would consider to offer international cooking course as well.
Yours faithfully,
Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requested points clearly: you describe enjoying the practical lessons and patient teachers, explain that you have cooked regularly at home and prepared a dish for friends, and suggest an international-cuisine course. The picnic example gives useful support to your account of cooking since the course, while the examples of India, Canada and Japan make your proposed course more specific. The letter also has an appropriate purpose and a suitable closing. To strengthen the response further, develop the benefits of the practical lessons or explain more precisely what you learned and how it has changed your cooking. The claim that the course made you “the master of cooking” is rather broad; a more measured, specific description would make your feedback more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: course feedback, cooking since the course, a suggestion for a future course, and a closing. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow each part of the task, and linking expressions such as “Since completing this course” and “because” show how ideas relate. The examples about cooking at home and preparing a dish for friends also fit naturally within the relevant paragraph. Some connections are less smooth, however: “A part from this” introduces another positive point awkwardly, and “There was a time when I was enjoying picnic” interrupts the progression of the account. Use more natural transitions and make the relationship between the picnic and your recent cooking explicit. Overall, the organisation is clear, though cohesion is not consistently fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “practical lessons,” “traditional dishes,” “ingredients,” and “flavour.” There are also attempts to use more specific expressions, such as “international cuisine” and “more confident.” However, noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation problems limit precision: “internatioal,” “whould,” and “provding” are misspelled, while “a bit knowledge,” “learn deeply,” and “master of cooking” are unnatural choices. “Class room” and “knowledgable” also need standard spelling. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the letter, but they make the language less natural and can cause some difficulty. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word combinations, rather than relying on direct translations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a concessive clause beginning “Although” and a reason clause with “because.” Most ideas remain understandable, but errors occur across sentence patterns and reduce accuracy. For example, “this course helped to learn deeply” lacks a clear subject for “learn,” and “teacher are” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence “Since completing this course, I regularly started cooking” combines a time phrase with an awkward tense choice; “I have regularly cooked” would express the continuing activity more accurately. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “I was enjoying picnic.” Practise accurate verb forms, agreement and article use, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
