Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to thank you for providing me the lessons, which i learnt from you last year and had changed my perspectives in different ways, which build my confidence and skills.

I am mainly writing this letter to provide the feedback for the course as per requested.

I always had a dream about leaning great cooking skills, which i accomplished while working at your palace. Most intresting part was the baking section, as i love to know about the process and the list of ingridents which i can use to enhance the flavours of diffirent types of cakes and stand apart with good results and feedbacks.

After i have completed the course, i easily got the job at very famous restaurant in my area, which gives me hands-on training, and i have learnt more advance dishes with the experience of almost one year now.

I also would like to share my thoughts about adding a masterclass for people who wants to brush up their skills in one go. If you like my idea, i would like to share more information about it after your kind words.

Thank you for your support and valuable time.

Kind regards,

Navneet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the three requested points: you describe enjoying the baking section, explain that you have continued cooking through a restaurant job, and suggest a masterclass. The letter also has an appropriate opening and closing. However, some details are only partly developed. For example, “how much cooking” you have done since the course is conveyed indirectly through your job and one year of experience, but you could state more clearly how often you cook or what you prepare. The proposed masterclass is also quite general; specify its focus and explain why it would benefit students. The course feedback would be more complete if you described particular activities or teaching features you enjoyed, rather than mainly listing your interest in baking.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable letter structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for feedback and future cooking, a suggestion, and a polite closing. The main ideas are generally understandable, and phrases such as “After i have completed the course” help signal a change in time. However, progression is not consistently smooth: the first two paragraphs repeat the purpose of writing, and the transition from enjoying the course to getting a restaurant job could be clearer. Some long sentences combine several points, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Organise the body around the three task points, use clearer links between them, and avoid repeating the letter’s purpose to make the progression more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “baking section,” “enhance the flavours,” “hands-on training,” and “masterclass.” These choices help communicate your experience and suggestion. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “leaning” for “learning,” “intresting,” “ingridents,” and “diffirent.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “working at your palace” appears to mean attending the school, while “after your kind words” does not clearly express what response you expect. “Feedbacks” is not the natural form in this context. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional collocations, such as “attending your school” and “receive your response,” to make the message clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and time expressions such as “After i have completed the course.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. For example, “which i learnt from you last year and had changed my perspectives” has an unclear relative clause and inconsistent tense, while “people who wants” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “got the job at very famous restaurant.” Capitalise “I” consistently, and review tense consistency, agreement, and clause boundaries. Breaking some long sentences into shorter, complete statements would improve accuracy while retaining variety.
