Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to provide feedback on the short cookery course I recently attended at your school. Overall, I found the course extremely enjoyable and useful.
Firstly, I really enjoyed the practical nature of the lessons. The instructor explained each recipe clearly and gave us plenty of opportunities to prepare the dishes ourselves. Apart from that, I also learn variety of techniques and improve my knife skills. An instructor also taught about number of ingredients use in multiple dishes was informative.
Since completing the course, i have been cooking much more frequently at home, I now prepare dinner for my family around three or four times a week, and I have already tried several of the recipes I learned during the course.
I would also like to suggest that the school offer a course on international cuisine. I would be interesting to learn how to prepare dishes from countries such as Italy, Thailand and Mexico. as well as understand the different cooking techniques used in these cuisines.
Thank you for providing such an enjoyable and valuable course. I am look forward to attending another course at your school in future.
Yours faithfully,
Krupa Maisuria.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a suitable, appreciative tone. You explain what you enjoyed through the practical lessons, clear instruction and knife-skills practice; you also give a specific account of cooking dinner three or four times weekly and trying course recipes. The suggestion of an international-cuisine course is relevant and supported with examples of Italy, Thailand and Mexico. These details make the response clear and purposeful. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly what you would hope to learn from the proposed course—for example, a particular technique or style of dish. Also follow the requested opening exactly: “Dear Sir or Madam,” rather than “Dear Sir,”.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: course feedback, cooking since the course, a future-course suggestion, and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader identify each part of the letter, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Since completing the course,” and “I would also like to suggest” guide progression. Some connections are less smooth, however. “Apart from that” is not especially precise for adding another benefit, and the long sentence beginning “Since completing the course” joins two complete ideas with only a comma. The final suggestion also begins a new sentence with lowercase “as well as,” which interrupts the flow. Use more precise links and check sentence boundaries to make cohesion consistently controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly, formal feedback letter, including “practical nature,” “knife skills,” “prepare the dishes,” and “international cuisine.” These choices communicate the main points clearly, and the examples of countries add useful specificity. There are some inaccurate or awkward word choices and forms, such as “learn variety of techniques,” “ingredients use in multiple dishes,” and “I would be interesting.” These reduce naturalness even though the intended meaning remains understandable. Aim for more accurate collocations and word forms, such as “learned a variety of techniques,” “ingredients used in several dishes,” and “I would be interested in learning.” This greater precision would strengthen the vocabulary without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as “The instructor explained each recipe clearly and gave us plenty of opportunities…” and the sentence describing how often you cook. Most ideas remain easy to understand, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include the missing article in “learn variety of techniques,” the incorrect verb form in “I also learn,” and the structure “An instructor also taught about number of ingredients use.” The sentence “Since completing the course…” also contains a comma splice, while “I am look forward” has an incorrect verb pattern. Capitalise “I” consistently and review articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make the varied structures more effective.
