Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear sir,

I was enrolled in the short length cookery course in your institution and i enjoyed very much by learning the Indian cusine cookery classes where i have learned so many dishes. I am interested by the way of teaching how to cook that is different from other institute there i would like to appreciate your teaching way i learned easily as compared to other institute they are equipped with old learning technique that is quited bored to the students.

After completion i would love to give fedback about the course i studied that is 10 out of 10 stars in everything such as great faculty and good enviroment. i would love to recommend another course in cookery for Chinese cuisine, Japanase cuisine, Thai cuisine and Italian cuisine. I will also recommend one of my friend who is interested in cooking Indian cuisine and she will join your institute.

Thank you,

Anuj Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address the course feedback purpose and mention enjoying the Indian cookery classes and teaching approach. You also suggest several cuisines for future courses and say you would recommend the school to a friend. However, one required point is not answered: you do not say how much cooking you have done since completing the course. The feedback itself is also quite general; “10 out of 10 stars in everything” does not explain which parts of the course were especially valuable or give a specific example. The letter therefore responds only partially to the task, with some relevant ideas left undeveloped. To improve, cover each bullet explicitly and add a brief detail about your cooking at home since the course.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: it begins with your experience of the course, moves to feedback and future-course suggestions, and ends with a closing. This makes the main topics identifiable. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the sentence beginning “I am interested by the way of teaching” runs into a comparison with other institutes without clear separation, and “After completion i would love to give fedback” introduces feedback awkwardly after you have already given it. Linking words and references are limited, and several ideas are joined into long strings. Use clearer paragraphing and shorter sentences, with transitions such as “In particular” and “Since completing the course” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general message, including “cookery course,” “Indian cuisine,” “teaching,” and “faculty.” You also attempt more specific terms when naming Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Italian cuisine. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which can make the letter less natural: “short length cookery course,” “enjoyed very much by learning,” and “teaching way” are examples. Spelling errors such as “cusine,” “fedback,” and “enviroment” are noticeable. Aim for more natural phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, say “short cookery course,” “I particularly enjoyed learning,” and “teaching methods.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally understand your main points. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences, and errors occur frequently enough to make some parts awkward. Examples include “I enjoyed very much by learning,” where the verb pattern is incorrect, and “I am interested by the way of teaching,” which has an inaccurate preposition and structure. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries also need attention: “i” should be “I,” and the long sentence comparing teaching methods would be clearer if divided. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete sentence patterns, such as “I enjoyed learning…” and “The instructors explained each dish clearly.”
