Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
The intention of my email today is to provide my honest feedback for the cookery course organized for a short duration in the last week.
To begin with, I was impressed with not only patients but also creativity of the head instructor. He explained easy methods to prepare any an arduous looking dishes and assisted us to use imagination to be creative while cooking. Consequently, I felt elited for joining this course and learned something new.
Addressing the cooking I have done, my everyday started with making mouth-watering breakfast, while I also prepared the lunch for almost 20 people regularly. In just seven days the course fostered my working speed; therefore, I could even prepare the meal for even 50 people.
To add to this, definately a short duration course was worth participating; however, it would be great if you could arrange another course for long duration. So, it will also assist me to other skills than just cooking such as serving, sanitation and produce ordering.
Thank you so much for your continuous assistance, I hope that my suggestion propmpts a quick response from you.
Yours faithfully,
Preshna Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you describe the instructor and what you learned, explain that you have cooked breakfast and lunch regularly since the course, and suggest a longer course covering additional skills. The examples of preparing lunch for around 20 people and later catering for 50 make your account relevant and specific. This meets the task well, and the positive evaluation is clear. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the enjoyment section focuses mainly on the instructor, with little detail about particular dishes or course activities, while the proposed course is described broadly rather than specifying its format or content. Developing these points would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: feedback on the course, cooking since attending, a future-course suggestion, and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these points, and signposts such as “To begin with” and “Addressing the cooking I have done” make the structure easy to follow. Some linking is less natural or slightly mechanical, particularly “To add to this” before the suggestion, and “therefore” is used where the relationship between ideas is not entirely clear. The final sentence also combines thanks and a request for a response without a smooth transition. More direct links between each point, and clearer references to what “it” or “this” means, would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal feedback letter, including relevant expressions such as “head instructor,” “mouth-watering breakfast,” “working speed,” and “sanitation.” These choices help communicate your enthusiasm and the practical impact of the course. You also attempt less common vocabulary, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “patients” appears to mean “patience,” “elited” is not the intended word, and “prepare any an arduous looking dishes” is difficult to interpret. There are also spelling errors such as “definately” and “propmpts.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but careful proofreading and more natural collocations would improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “not only … but also” and the conditional suggestion “it would be great if you could arrange another course.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “my everyday started with making” has an unclear subject and structure, and “it will also assist me to other skills” is not formed correctly. In “prepare the meal for even 50 people,” the article and number pattern are awkward, and the sentence beginning “So, it will also assist…” is not well connected to the preceding clause. Review sentence construction, articles, and verb patterns, then check that each sentence expresses one clear relationship.
