Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to give you feedback regarding my recent cookery course done by your prestigious acadamy. I would like to inform you that I was much cherrished while i was doing this course, not only because of extremely friendly environment but also due to excellent learning experience.

Let me explain it to you in detail that how much of cooking I have done yet. I have learnt traditional Aian style cooking as well as famous Europian dishes such as pizza , pasta and so many other receipies.I have completed baking series offered by the special bakers team too. Since the completion of my course,my friends and family are getting amused by the cooking which i am doing for them. The whole credit goes to the my worthy teachers.

I would like to suggest you to start a new cookery course encompassing the American continental foods. It will not only be beneficial for interested students like me but also your school will take a lead in the town.

I would be much grateful to you for this consideration.

Your's faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you describe the friendly environment and learning experience, explain that you have cooked for friends and family since the course, and recommend a course in American food. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the closing is appropriate. However, the feedback on what you enjoyed is quite general, and the amount or frequency of cooking since the course is not made specific; “my friends and family are getting amused” gives a result but little detail about how often or what you have prepared. The proposed course is relevant, though “American continental foods” could be clarified with examples. Developing these points more fully would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explaining its purpose, a paragraph about the course and subsequent cooking, a suggestion, and a polite closing. This makes the main message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “not only … but also” and “Since the completion of my course” to connect ideas. At times, however, the progression is less smooth because the second paragraph begins with “Let me explain it to you in detail” and then moves between course content and cooking after the course. Some linking phrases feel formulaic, and punctuation spacing makes a few transitions harder to read. Organising the second paragraph around one clear point at a time and using simpler, more precise transitions would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for a formal feedback letter, including “excellent learning experience,” “traditional … style cooking,” “baking series,” and “beneficial.” These choices help communicate your appreciation and suggestion. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural word choices and spelling errors, such as “cherrished,” “acadamy,” “Aian,” “Europian,” and “receipies.” Phrases including “course done by your” and “getting amused by the cooking” are understandable but do not sound natural in this context. “American continental foods” is also unclear. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but more accurate spelling and natural collocations would make the letter more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including the complex construction “not only because … but also due to …” and the sentence beginning “Since the completion of my course.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I would like to inform you that I was much cherished while I was doing this course” has an awkward passive construction, and “the credit goes to the my worthy teachers” contains an unnecessary article. The question-like clause “how much of cooking I have done yet” is not formed naturally, while “Since the completion of my course, my friends and family are getting amused” has an unclear tense relationship. Review article use, clause structure, and tense choices, and check punctuation spacing to improve accuracy.
