Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my feedback on a short cookery course, which I recently did at the cookery school.
I enjoyed my time at the cookery school by participating different kinds of meals preparation. Although, there was a variety of meals, which needed various recipe to prepare, the cookery teacher made it easy to remember and explained the process smoothly.
Since I finished my course, I have been cooking two to three times in a week. Moreover, I helped my mother in cooking by preparing one meal in dinner during the weekends. During holiday, I invited my friends in my backyard and we enjoyed out time while making a variety of food and spending time together.
I would suggest you to include one course related to healthy diet. In recent time, people are facing a health issues like a obesity and the food poisoning and this kind of course will help them to prepare healthy food without affecting their health.
I hope my feedback will help you in many ways.
Yours Sincerely,
Jay Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you describe enjoying the meal preparation and the teacher’s explanations, explain that you cook several times a week and help your mother, and suggest a course on healthy cooking. The examples about preparing dinner at weekends and cooking with friends make your feedback specific and relevant. Your recommendation is supported by a reason, namely that people face health problems, so the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To develop the ideas further, explain what particular skills or dishes you would want a healthy-cooking course to teach, rather than referring broadly to health issues. Overall, the task is fully addressed with relevant, supported ideas, though some points could be more precisely developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: an opening purpose, a paragraph about the course, one about your cooking since then, a recommendation, and a closing. This paragraphing makes each task point easy to locate, and linking expressions such as “Since I finished my course” and “Moreover” help show how the ideas relate. The sequence within the cooking paragraph is also logical, moving from regular cooking to helping your mother and then entertaining friends. Some links feel slightly mechanical, and “Although” at the start of the course paragraph does not clearly introduce a contrast. Use transitions only where the relationship is clear, and make the contrast or addition explicit. The overall organisation remains clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “variety,” “preparing,” “healthy diet,” and “health issues.” However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make the language less natural: “did a course,” “different kinds of meals preparation,” “in dinner,” and “invited my friends in my backyard.” There are also awkward or inaccurate expressions such as “a health issues” and “out time.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build a bank of common collocations for cooking and invitations, and check whether nouns are countable and whether a phrase is idiomatic before using it. More precise vocabulary would make the feedback sound more fluent and assured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a short cookery course, which I recently did” and a subordinate clause beginning “Although.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors occur in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and prepositions. For example, “I enjoyed my time … by participating different kinds” is missing a grammatical link, while “there was a variety of meals, which needed various recipe” has an agreement error. “I would suggest you to include” also uses an incorrect verb pattern; write “I would suggest including” or “I would recommend that you include.” Review article use and sentence patterns, then proofread each clause for a complete, correctly formed structure. Greater accuracy across these attempts would strengthen control.
