Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Director,

Hope everything is good. I am writing to you to share my valuable feedback on the completion of my cookery course at the institution. I really enjoyed the whole course, especially the competition organized on the last day to wina prize. I could not win the first prize, and stood second which motivated me for my future carrer.

Fortunately, I got a job opportunity in a famous Indian resturant immediately and now I am preparing all the menus for the customers on daily basis and receiving valuable apprecation. Additionaly, at the weekend I love to coock for my family which is a really fun.

To concule, I want to add a suggestion, Turkish food is the most favorite in the town, so Turkish food course must be avaialble in future. I have keen desire to enroll in immediatly, because customers in mt resturant ask for Turkish food frequently. I hope you will take my suggestion positively. Best wishes .

Yours Sincelry,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe enjoying the final-day competition, explain that you now cook professionally and for your family, and recommend a Turkish food course. The details about placing second and customers requesting Turkish dishes make the letter relevant and personal. This meets the task well, although some points are more fully developed than others: the course enjoyment is mainly linked to the competition, while the proposed course would be more persuasive with a brief explanation of what dishes or skills it should cover. The purpose is clear throughout, but the opening and closing could be more consistently formal for a letter to a course director. Expanding the less-developed ideas and maintaining an appropriate register would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible sequence: feedback on the course, cooking since completing it, and a suggestion for a future course. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and transitions such as “Fortunately” and “To conclude” guide the reader. The overall arrangement is coherent, though some linking feels mechanical, particularly the explicit “To conclude” before the suggestion. The shift from the competition to your career is understandable but could be connected more smoothly by explaining how the course prepared you for the job. Some references, such as “the whole course,” remain broad. Use transitions that show the relationship between ideas and develop each paragraph around a clear point to make progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “competition,” “motivated,” “menus,” and “enroll,” and phrases such as “valuable feedback” and “job opportunity” help convey your message. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: “carrer,” “resturant,” “apprecation,” “Additionaly,” and “avaialble” are examples. Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “the most favorite in the town” and “on daily basis.” These issues keep the range from sounding consistently controlled, despite the clear meaning overall. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for describing work and preferences; more precise phrasing will make your ideas sound more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the explanation that customers ask for Turkish food frequently. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect naturalness and control. For example, “Hope everything is good” omits a subject, “which is a really fun” has an incorrect article and structure, and “I have keen desire” needs an article. The sentence beginning “I really enjoyed the whole course” also contains a long sequence of ideas that would be clearer if punctuated or divided more carefully. Work on articles, complete sentence structures, and punctuation, while continuing to practise combining clauses accurately. Greater consistency in these areas would make the letter easier to read.
