Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am very grateful that I completed my course of cooking with you. I would like to inform you that i really enjoy while making dishes. Before starting this course i have not that much interest in cooking food because for me cooking is really a difficult task but you make it easy for me. The best thing was when you add games while making any cusines and after completing the tasks you gave prizes is really a fun. Also, the quizes regarding the ingredients of some dishes.

Moreover, I have tried numerous foods to impress my family since the course. Specially whenever any guest was coming to my home i always make something special for them and finishing their food when they gave feedback I was over the moon.

However, I would sugguest you to add one more course releated to baking because nowadays, many people have interest in learning how to make cakes, pastries, breads and many more things. They want to learn baking in order to open their own business. So, I would request you to add this course and I would be very thankankful for this.

Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you explain that the course made cooking easier and that you enjoyed the games, quizzes and prizes; you describe cooking for your family and guests afterwards; and you recommend a baking course. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your experience. The enjoyment and baking suggestions are the most developed parts, while the amount of cooking since the course is less specific: “numerous foods” and cooking when guests visit do not clearly show how often you have cooked. To strengthen the response, give a clearer indication of frequency and perhaps one or two examples of dishes. The tone is appreciative and appropriate, though a more formal closing would complete the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall progression: it begins with your experience of the course, moves to cooking afterwards, and then makes a suggestion for a future course. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “However” guide the reader. This gives the letter a coherent structure. Some connections are less smooth, however: the opening paragraph shifts from your initial lack of interest to games, prizes and quizzes without clearly separating the ideas, and “Also” introduces a fragment rather than a complete sentence. The final “Thank you” feels abrupt after the request. Use complete sentences, make transitions more natural, and add a conventional sign-off to make the organisation feel more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “impress my family,” “over the moon,” “ingredients,” and “open their own business.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and make the letter personal. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “cusines,” “quizes,” “sugg uest,” “releated,” and “thankankful.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “course of cooking” would be more naturally expressed as “cookery course,” and “finishing their food when they gave feedback” does not clearly convey that you enjoyed their comments. Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that express your meaning directly. This would make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a conditional-style example beginning “whenever any guest was coming.” The main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “I really enjoy while making dishes” lacks a suitable verb pattern, and “Before starting this course i have not that much interest” has problems with tense and sentence construction. In “the best thing was when you add games,” the past-tense context is not maintained. There are also issues with articles, agreement and punctuation, including the run-on construction around “finishing their food when they gave feedback.” Practise accurate past-tense narration and build longer sentences around complete clauses.
