Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide a feedback related to a cookery class that was held at Laurentian University on October 21st.

To provide some sepcific context, I personally enjoyed the way of teaching by your professional bakers and also the kitchen was tidy. Additionally, I was making blunders frequently, still the bakers trained my without frustrations.

Regarding my cooking, I tried baking the cookies at home. Although I heated them with extreme temperate in the first trial, I made the cookies perectly in the next trial. Also, I tried using the combination of chocolate chips with the cookies and successed.

In light of these circumstances, I would like to suggest that your team should launch special classes for cooking cakes and deserts. As both the dishes are in trending nowadays duing the special festival and occasion, many students will join the course.

I hope you will consider my suggestions; and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Anshu Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you describe the teaching and tidy kitchen, explain that you have baked cookies at home, and suggest courses in cakes and desserts. The examples about correcting the oven temperature and adding chocolate chips make your follow-up cooking more specific. This meets the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed than others: the enjoyment paragraph mentions the bakers’ patience but could explain what you learned or which part of the teaching was especially useful. The proposed course is relevant, though the claim that these dishes are popular during festivals and occasions is broad. A little more specific support would make the feedback more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from its purpose, to your experience of the course, to cooking afterwards, and finally to your suggestion and closing. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow each part, and transitions such as “Additionally,” “Regarding my cooking,” and “In light of these circumstances” make the relationships between ideas clear. The sequence in the cookie example—from the first attempt to the next—is also easy to understand. Some linking phrases sound rather formal or formulaic for a feedback letter, and “To provide some specific context” does not add much to the progression. More natural, varied transitions and slightly tighter phrasing would make the organisation feel more effortless.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the course experience and your suggestions, including “professional bakers,” “tidy,” “combination,” and “special classes.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “with extreme temperate” and “in light of these circumstances,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision. Spelling errors such as “sepcific,” “perectly,” “successed,” and “duing” are noticeable. “Deserts” also means dry regions, rather than sweet dishes. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more accurate spelling, word forms, and collocations would strengthen the letter’s vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “Although I heated them … in the first trial, I made the cookies … in the next trial” and the conditional-style explanation of why students might join. Most ideas remain understandable, and the paragraphs contain some controlled sentence patterns. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “a feedback” uses an uncountable noun with an article, “the way of teaching” has an awkward grammatical construction, and “the bakers trained my” has an incorrect object pronoun. The punctuation in “I hope you will consider my suggestions; and I look forward” is also faulty. Review articles, pronouns, and sentence punctuation while continuing to use varied structures.
