Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to provide you my amazing experience about the cookery course I opted at your institution.

I opted for bakery course which I thoroghly enjoyed. I learned to make cakes of different flavours. Not only cakes but also I learned to make breads. Moreover, creating cheesecakes was cherry on the top. I started making these cakes at home. I even managed to sell 7 of thses 1 kgs cakes to my friends and neighbours during their special occasions in last 1 month. As a beginner,I earned a good amount of money. The thing which I enjoyed the most about this course is that it covered all the flavours available in the market.

In addition, I find international cousines quite difficult. Your institutution has good teachers who can teach students very perfactly with small detailing. If the school offers,I will be pleased to join cookery class for Chinese cousine at your school.

Yours Faithfully,

Martina

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a suitable purpose: you describe enjoying the bakery course, explain that you have made cakes at home and sold seven, and request a Chinese cookery class. The specific detail about selling cakes gives your feedback a personal, relevant focus. This meets the task well, though the enjoyment point is more fully developed than the suggestion: the Chinese course is requested, but you do not explain what you would hope to learn from it. The opening also says “Dear Sir,” rather than using the requested greeting, and the letter could sound more directly addressed to the director. To strengthen the response further, develop the proposed course with a reason or a particular skill you would like to learn.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces your feedback, describes the course and subsequent cooking, then makes a future-course suggestion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main topics, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “In addition” show how ideas relate. However, the first main paragraph combines course enjoyment with your later baking and sales, so the progression is not always easy to follow. Some links feel mechanical, and the final paragraph moves from difficulty with international cuisines to praise of the teachers before requesting a Chinese class without fully explaining the connection. Grouping the course experience and post-course cooking more deliberately, then giving the suggestion and its rationale, would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “bakery course,” “cheesecakes,” “flavours,” and “special occasions.” Phrases such as “cherry on the top” add a personal tone, although the more natural expression is “the icing on the cake.” There are several spelling and word-choice problems, including “thoroghly,” “thses,” “cousines,” “institutution,” and “perfactly,” which reduce accuracy and polish. “Provide you my amazing experience” is also an awkward collocation, and “all the flavours available in the market” is broad and imprecise. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural formal expressions, such as “share my experience” and “a wide range of flavours.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including “Not only cakes but also I learned to make breads” and “The thing which I enjoyed the most…”. The main message remains clear, and the past-tense account of the course and recent baking is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “I am writing this letter to provide you my…” is missing a suitable construction, and “I opted for bakery course” needs an article. There are also punctuation and spacing problems, such as the missing space after “flavours.” and the comma placement in “As a beginner,I”. Review articles, sentence punctuation, and natural clause construction, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
