Student answer (Band 4.5)

Dear sir,

i am writing to express my positive feedback about cookery course which i recently completed from national cooking school. I got two weeks classes from this school. They gave me two types of classes named, practical and theortical. Moreover, i enjoyed a lot of things while learing cooking. Because i got an opportunties to know about different recipes and ingrediants. As, before attending this course, i had less knowledge about products but after doing this course, i become good chef. In addition to it, i prepared number of dishes such as halwa, carrat pudding and many more recipes. I remember, last time i done this course by making pizza. This course was more beneficial for me to learn different things because teachers had a lot of experience and way of teaching good. Moreover, now i am waiting for next cooking session so i can recommend my friends to learn this course from your school.

I hope you would start new sessions as soon as possible, i would wait for your new course.

Yours faithfully,

Gagan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You communicate a positive opinion and give relevant examples of what you enjoyed, including learning recipes and making dishes such as halwa and carrot pudding. However, the task is only partially addressed: you do not clearly say how much cooking you have done since the course, and the final point is not fulfilled because you ask for new sessions without naming a different course you would like the school to offer. Some details, such as the course lasting two weeks, are useful, but the main points need clearer, fuller answers. To improve, state specifically what you have cooked since finishing and suggest a course, for example, one focused on baking or regional cuisine.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The letter has a recognisable sequence: you introduce your feedback, describe the classes and your enjoyment, then close with a request for future sessions. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In addition to it” help connect ideas, but they are repeated and sometimes make the progression feel mechanical. Several points are crowded into one long paragraph, and the relationship between “I prepared number of dishes” and “last time i done this course by making pizza” is unclear. Use separate paragraphs for your overall feedback, cooking since the course, and your suggested future course. Clearer sequencing and more precise links between examples would make the letter easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to convey the general message, including “recipes,” “ingredients,” “practical,” and “theoretical.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as naming dishes. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “theortical,” “learing,” “opportunties,” and “carrat pudding.” Some phrases are unnatural or vague, such as “I got two weeks classes” and “teachers had a lot of experience and way of teaching good.” Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the course as “a two-week course” and say that the instructors “were experienced and taught effectively.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, using clauses introduced by “because” and “before,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. Examples include “i become good chef,” “i done this course,” and the comma splice in “I hope you would start new sessions as soon as possible, i would wait.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent, particularly at the start of sentences and with “I.” Practise accurate past-tense forms (“I became,” “I made”) and divide long or joined sentences with full stops or suitable conjunctions.
