Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I recently attended your two weeks long cookery course at Madisson cookery school,Toronto. I would like to present my valuable feeback regarding my experience during the course and how the course has shaped my cooking skills.

The cooking course was well structured covering all the important cullinary aspects as well as cooking and cutlery ettiquates. The course had a cohort of about 16 students who were further devided into eight teams of two people each.Additionaly, the cooking schedule was curated in such a way that each day focused on a specific cuisine and the same schedule was followed for the following week.As a part of the cusine, we were taught how to make a main course meal, an appetizer and a desert. Moreover, at the end of the course there was a small session teaching us basic table manners.

I did cook few dishes at home since the course ended. I made parmesan pasta for my parents and they reaaly liked and praised my cooking skills and the food.

Although, the course covered almost everything regarding the cooking.I would be elated if you could please add a short course on exotic and refreshing drinks and coolers also.I was a very enriching and educational experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you describe the course structure and daily cuisine focus, mention making parmesan pasta for your parents, and request a course on drinks and coolers. The account of what you enjoyed is the most developed, with details about teamwork, dishes and table manners. By comparison, the cooking you have done since the course is only illustrated by one meal, and the proposed course is named but not explained. The letter also opens with “Dear Sir,” rather than the requested “Dear Sir or Madam,” and the closing is missing, which makes the format feel incomplete. Develop the later points with a little more detail and use a complete, appropriately formal letter format.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the course, describes its content, reports cooking at home, and then makes a suggestion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Although” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, some links feel mechanical or do not express the intended relationship clearly; for example, “Although” introduces a sentence that is not completed as a contrast, and “As a part of the cusine” is an unclear reference. The final two ideas are also crowded into one paragraph. To make progression more fluent, use transitions that precisely signal the relationship between points and give each main purpose its own paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “well structured,” “specific cuisine,” “appetizer,” and “table manners.” There are also attempts at more formal or less common wording, such as “curated” and “enriching,” although some choices are unnatural in context: “valuable feedback” and “the course has shaped my cooking skills” sound overly grand for a short feedback letter, while “exotic and refreshing drinks and coolers” could be expressed more precisely. Spelling errors such as “feeback,” “cullinary,” “ettiquates,” and “devided” are noticeable but the intended meaning remains clear. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations rather than choosing formal-sounding words where simpler phrasing would be more idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “Although” and the description of how the schedule was organised. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “I did cook few dishes” needs an article (“a few”), and “they reaaly liked and praised my cooking skills and the food” is missing an object after “liked” or a clearer parallel structure. “Although, the course covered almost everything regarding the cooking” is an incomplete sentence when followed by a full stop, and “I was a very enriching and educational experience” has an incorrect subject. Check articles, sentence boundaries and subject–verb structure, and proofread punctuation so complex sentences remain complete.
