Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide a feedback on cookery course, which I completed from your school recently on 10th October.
During my course duration, I learned several cooking skills such as Italian dishes, wide variety of spices and table presentation. Regardless of inadequate cooking knowledge, your teaching staff were really outstanding and supportive. Not only your teaching staff encouraged me to get familiar with different cooking equipments but they also broadend my knowledge about blending of spices. In addition, a booklet that includes different recipies was the best part of my course because it allowed me practice those dishes at home as well.
Since I completed my course, I am able to confidently cook Italian dishes such as Pasta, Noodles for my family whenever I have a leisure time. Next year, I was planning to join another short cookery course at your school. I would suggest if you could offer me a traditional cookery course which includes all basic healthy recipies.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Rashim

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains an appropriate, polite tone. You explain what you enjoyed, especially the supportive teaching staff and the recipe booklet, and you give examples of cooking Italian dishes for your family since the course. You also suggest a future course focused on traditional, healthy recipes. These details make the response relevant and give the reader a clear account of your experience. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify how often you have cooked or mention a particular dish you have prepared; “whenever I have a leisure time” is quite general. The proposed course could also be clearer about the cuisine or skills you would like it to cover.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is organised in a clear sequence: feedback on the course, cooking since it ended, a suggestion for a future course, and a courteous closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “In addition” and “Since I completed my course” help connect the ideas. The contrast introduced by “Regardless of” and the “Not only … but also” construction also show an effort to vary cohesion. Some links are less natural or precise, however, and the long sentence about the teaching staff makes the relationship between the ideas slightly harder to follow. Use simpler, more direct transitions where needed, and ensure each paragraph develops one main point smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “table presentation,” “blending of spices,” and “traditional cookery course.” These choices communicate your experience and show attempts to use more specific language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, though: “provide a feedback,” “course duration,” and “cooking equipments” do not sound natural in this context. There are also spelling errors in “broadend” and “recipies.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit the precision and control of your vocabulary. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling, while keeping the language natural rather than overly formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, such as “Not only … but also” and the relative clause “which I completed from your school.” Most ideas remain understandable, and you use past and present forms to describe the course and your later cooking. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “a feedback” needs an article adjustment, “it allowed me practice” is missing “to,” and “I was planning to join” does not clearly express your intended future plan. The sentence beginning “I would suggest if you could offer me” also needs a more suitable grammatical pattern. Practise article use, verb patterns, and consistent tense choices to make these structures more accurate.
