Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I have completed my cooking course last month and it was a great experience. Before joining the classes, I was unaware about the various dishes those are prepared without fire, especially the cold snakes which I learned in this course. Moving further, I remember, I captured the pictures of every dish which I prepared by my self and I posted on my social media after my every class.

Since last two weeks, in my morning routine, I help my mother in kitchen and I prepare the morning meal by myself not only for me but also for my family. I feel it is the sense of achievement.

Lastly, I wanted to add one suggestion. There should be an online cooking classes facility so that interested students can join and enhance theire curlinary skills. I think it would be more convenient for all of the students as some regular schools are not providing these type of the course.

I hope you will think about my suggestion and add in your list.

Thank you,

Imran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe learning to prepare dishes without fire, explain that you now cook breakfast for yourself and your family, and suggest online classes. The examples about photographing dishes and helping your mother make the feedback personal and relevant. This meets the task well, but the enjoyment of the course is less fully explained: you mention what you learned and the photos, without saying much about what made the classes enjoyable. The suggestion is clear, though its benefit could be developed with a specific example of who would benefit and how. A fuller explanation of these ideas would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: course experience, cooking since the course, and a suggestion for future classes. Paragraphing supports this structure, and signposts such as “Since last two weeks” and “Lastly” help the reader follow the shift between points. The closing also makes the purpose of the letter clear. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly “Moving further” and “Lastly,” and the first paragraph contains several ideas in one long sequence. Use more natural transitions and separate the course enjoyment from the social-media detail, so each paragraph develops its main point more smoothly. Overall, the organisation is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including relevant expressions such as “sense of achievement,” “morning routine,” and “enhance … skills.” However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the language less natural and sometimes distract the reader. For example, “cold snakes” appears to mean “cold snacks,” while “unaware about” and “by my self” are not appropriate forms in this context. “Curlinary” is misspelled, and “add in your list” is an awkward phrase. Aim for more accurate everyday collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your message clearer and more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “not only for me but also for my family” and the reason introduced by “as.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, articles, prepositions, and sentence construction. For example, “I have completed my cooking course last month” combines the present perfect with a finished past-time expression; “Since last two weeks” needs a different time expression, and “those are prepared” does not fit the noun phrase it refers to. There are also awkward constructions such as “I hope you will think about my suggestion and add in your list.” Review tense choices and sentence patterns, while continuing to use varied structures.
