Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You communicate enthusiasm for the course and include relevant details, such as learning about ingredients, cooking pasta, and winning the final exam. However, the letter does not clearly cover two key points: how much cooking you have done since the course, and what specific new course you would like the school to offer. The final paragraph recommends the course to other students rather than suggesting a course for the school to run. Much of the response describes events during the two-month course, so the requested feedback is only minimally addressed. To improve, state plainly how often you have cooked since finishing and name a course you would like, such as a baking or vegetarian cookery course.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response moves from general enjoyment to the course experience and then to a closing recommendation. The account of the first week, later cooking lessons, and final exam gives the reader a basic sequence. However, the long middle paragraph contains several different ideas, including learning to live with others, struggling to cook, and the exam, without clear separation. Connections between ideas are often repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “because” and “and,” and some references are difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for what you enjoyed, cooking since the course, and your suggested future course. Clearer linking phrases and shorter sentences would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use basic vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “tutor,” “cooking,” “dish,” and “exam,” and you give examples of foods prepared. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the letter difficult to understand, such as “paste” for “pasta,” “experiened,” and “tastey.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, including “get my feeling low” and “every single double to triple times.” Aim for accurate, natural expressions that describe your experience precisely, such as “I kept practising” or “I cooked several times a week.” Proofreading spelling and choosing familiar collocations carefully would make your meaning clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example when explaining that you had little cooking experience but kept trying. This shows some effort to go beyond short, simple statements. However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors in tense, agreement, articles, and punctuation frequently make the message hard to follow. For instance, “we cook everyday” and “teacher teach us” do not use the correct verb forms, while “when i try first time cooking in this course” is an incomplete clause. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check past-tense forms when describing the course.
