Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writting to provide feedback on the cookery course I attened at your school recently.
Firstly, I want to thank you so much for the effort of organised this whole experience, it was amazing! What I enjoyed the most was the practical nature of the lessons, which allowed me to prepare a variety of dishes under the guidance of an experienced instructor. The theoretical part was also really good made. The atmosphere and also the equipment in the kitchen was perfect. The course was both enjoyable and informative.
Since completing the course, I have been cooking as much as I can, approximately five times a week. I have tried several new recipes and become more confident in the kitchen.
I would also like to suggest introducing additional cooking courses. Maybe bakery? I would love to learn how to bake french pastries like croissant or pain au chocolat!
I hope you consider these suggest when planning future courses.
Your faithfully,
XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you describe the practical lessons, instructor guidance and kitchen atmosphere; explain that you cook about five times a week and have tried new recipes; and suggest a course in baking French pastries. These details make the letter relevant and give a clear, positive response throughout. The enjoyment section is supported with several specific features, while the amount of cooking is stated clearly but could be developed with an example of a dish you have made or how the course changed your cooking. The proposed course is appealing, though you could explain why it would be useful to you or other students. A more consistently formal tone would also suit a letter to the director.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter has a clear progression: an opening purpose, feedback on the course, an account of your cooking since it ended, a future-course suggestion, and a closing. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and transitions such as “Firstly,” “Since completing the course,” and “I would also like to suggest” guide the reader effectively. The sequence is easy to follow, with no major gaps in meaning. To make the organisation more polished, avoid the abrupt question “Maybe bakery?” and connect the suggestion to the following sentence, for example by introducing a baking course directly. The closing could also be linked more smoothly to the request for future courses.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “practical nature,” “under the guidance of an experienced instructor,” “informative,” and “become more confident.” These phrases communicate your positive experience clearly, and the cooking-related vocabulary is relevant. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice or collocation errors, such as “writting,” “attened,” “effort of organised,” and “these suggest.” “Theoretical part was also really good made” is also an unnatural expression. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit the precision and naturalness of the language. Check spelling and choose conventional collocations, such as “the effort you put into organising the course” and “these suggestions.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause “which allowed me to prepare a variety of dishes” and the time clause “Since completing the course.” Most ideas remain clear, but some grammatical errors persist. In “the effort of organised this whole experience,” the verb pattern should be “the effort of organising” or “the effort you put into organising.” In “The atmosphere and also the equipment in the kitchen was perfect,” the compound subject calls for “were.” The closing “Your faithfully” should be “Yours faithfully,” and the question fragment “Maybe bakery?” would be more complete as a sentence. Review verb patterns, subject–verb agreement and formal letter conventions to improve accuracy while retaining your sentence variety.
