Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Director,
I am writing this letter to thanks about cookery progame i had completed at your school. Which helped me a lot to get a job and find cooking skills in myself.
First and formost, i really enjoyed this programe because i was looking for classes regarding cooking chinese from a long time. However, i was unable to get any suitable option with such a resonable price that i got offered here. Moreover, teachers were very supportive here, which i found most attractive thing here.
Furthere, since finishing this programe i am brushing up my skills everyday. Hence, i got a job in local resturant and they hired me as a line cook. Adding to it, i really enjoy doing this job not only i earn money but also i am very fond of working in a food sector.
At last, i think there should be a course regarding a mexican food as there is numerous of students wants to learn how to make mexican food. This is a good programe to offer as it has a growing demand.
Looking forward to hear a positive reply from you.
Yours sincerely,
Tony

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you explain that you enjoyed the Chinese cookery classes, describe cooking regularly and getting work as a line cook, and recommend a Mexican food course. The reasons for your positive view—supportive teachers and a reasonable price—also make the feedback relevant and clear. Your suggestion that demand is growing gives it some support, although it would be stronger with a specific example of dishes or skills students could learn. The letter’s purpose and overall position are clear throughout. To develop the response further, add a little more detail about what you particularly enjoyed learning and how often or what you have cooked since the course.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it opens with the purpose, moves through your enjoyment and subsequent cooking, and ends with a course suggestion and polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these points, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “since finishing,” and “At last” make the sequence easy to follow. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and “Adding to it” does not connect the ideas as naturally as it could. The opening sentence beginning “Which helped me” is also detached from the sentence before it, interrupting the flow. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect related ideas within complete sentences to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “supportive,” “line cook,” “food sector,” and “growing demand,” so the reader can understand your experience and recommendation. There is some variety in how you describe the course and your work. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “programe,” “formost,” “resturant,” and “resonable.” Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “find cooking skills in myself” and “doing this job.” These issues limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary, even though the main message remains understandable. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for describing skills, employment, and course content.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including the contrast in “not only I earn money but also I am very fond of working…” and the relative clause about the teachers. The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors occur in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and agreement. For example, “I am writing this letter to thanks” needs an infinitive form, while “Which helped me” is a sentence fragment rather than a complete clause. In “there is numerous of students wants,” the subject and verb structure do not agree. These recurring problems make some sentences awkward. Practise building complete clauses and checking agreement and verb patterns, while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
