Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You address the course experience and suggest a Chinese cookery course, so the reader can identify your main purpose. However, the task is only minimally covered: the enjoyment point is brief, the request for a new course is not developed, and you do not say how much cooking you have done since finishing the course. The response also contains 109 words, below the required 150, which leaves little room to explain your ideas. Add a clear account of how often you have cooked and what dishes you have made, then explain what you enjoyed and why a Chinese course would be useful. Use a suitable formal greeting and closing for the course director as well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: you first mention the course, then refer to learning recipes, and finally make a suggestion for another course. This gives the reader a rough sense of the letter’s purpose. However, the ideas do not progress clearly, and the first two sections overlap rather than forming distinct points. The paragraph breaks and full stop before the final paragraph are also inconsistent. Use separate paragraphs for what you enjoyed, your cooking since the course, and your proposed course. Linking phrases such as “Since completing the course” and “I would also be interested in” would make the relationships between ideas clearer and help the letter read as a connected whole.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “activities,” “meal,” “recipes,” and “Chinese cooking course,” which helps communicate the general topic. However, the range is limited, and frequent spelling and word-choice problems sometimes make the message difficult to understand, as in “many think,” “makr me perfact,” and “Chinese chief.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “class time professor give very good knowledge.” Choose more accurate phrases such as “the instructor explained the techniques clearly” and “I have become more confident preparing several dishes.” Check spelling carefully and use vocabulary that describes cooking practice and course content more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to combine ideas, for example in “where i live there is lot of restaurant where there only hire…,” but sentence structures are limited and often faulty. Verb forms are a recurring problem: “i did enjoyed” and “professor divided … and give” do not use consistent, correct forms. There are also missing articles and agreement errors in phrases such as “there is lot of restaurant.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, and several ideas run together without clear sentence boundaries. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past tense for the course and present perfect or past simple to describe cooking since it ended. Proofread each sentence for articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
