Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear madam,

I am writing this letter to share my experience about cookery course that you had ask.

Cooking is my hobby. due to this, i had curiosity to learn how to make food. In this course i enjoyed the way of teaching. with the help of right and clear guildences from this school i didnot face any issues.

when i started this course i knew just few things about cooking but now i become a good cook. i know about all the ingredients, spices, measurments such as in what vegetable how much spices can use in each and every dish.

I would like to suggest that now you have only one session available and it has only basic. In future hope you would be more options in courses as well as I think that you should add few western food recipes so the students can learn something spacial.

yours faithfully,

sukhpreet kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The letter is relevant and attempts to cover all three points: you describe enjoying the teaching, explain that your cooking has improved, and suggest adding Western recipes. However, the second point is not answered clearly: “now i become a good cook” describes your ability, but does not say how much you have cooked since the course. The course suggestion is also somewhat unclear because “only one session available” and “it has only basic” do not specify what course you would like offered. Develop these points with concrete details, such as how often you have cooked and a particular course you would attend. The purpose is understandable, but the requested feedback is only partially developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your ideas are arranged in a generally coherent order: you introduce the purpose, discuss the course, describe what you learned, and finish with a suggestion. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these topics. Some connections are less clear, however. The shift from “I know about all the ingredients” to the course proposal is abrupt, and “now you have only one session available and it has only basic” is difficult to follow because the reference to “it” is unclear. Linking the course experience to your recommendation more explicitly would improve progression. The closing is present, though the letter would feel more complete with a conventional sign-off and consistent capitalization.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to cookery, including “ingredients,” “spices,” “measurements,” and “recipes,” so the reader can understand the general subject. The range is limited, though, and several word choices or spellings make the message less natural: “guildences” for guidance, “spacial” for special, and “share my experience about” where “give feedback on” would be more idiomatic. Phrases such as “all the ingredients” and “good cook” are broad rather than precise. Try using specific cooking terms and natural collocations, for example, naming a dish you learned or describing the instructor’s demonstrations. Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your meaning clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses simple statements, with a few attempts to connect ideas using “but,” “when,” and “so.” These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent. For example, “the cookery course that you had ask” has an incorrect verb form, while “when i started this course i knew just few things” needs more accurate tense and article use. In “now i become a good cook,” the verb form does not fit the intended meaning. Capitalization and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly after full stops. Practise accurate past and present-perfect forms, articles, and complete sentence boundaries; these changes would make the letter easier to read without changing its ideas.
