Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Hope you are doing great.
I would like to bring your attention, that i had recently completed my first session of cookery course in your institution. Enthusiastically, i would like to explain one of my experience with you.
I enjoyed, the full session of my course. But, here i would like to express my favourite experience that was on tandoor. The head cook was great past experience related to cook in tandoor items. He suggest me each and every step of cooking like marination, tandoor and friyer timming, veg and non veg cooking instructions.
The chef was providing training for first 2 days, and after that i cook 3 to 4 items everyday for my 8 hours class.
At the last, i would like to suggest you, kindly start the next session that are related to some appetizers. Because, currently its not available in your cookery sessions. So, i am not go anywhere else for appetizers.
Hope this information, helps you start with the new sessions soon. I am waiting for your reply.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address all three requested points: you describe enjoying the tandoor training, explain that you cooked several items during the course, and suggest an appetizers course. These details make the letter relevant. However, the second point is not fully clear: “after that i cook 3 to 4 items everyday for my 8 hours class” describes cooking during the course, rather than how much you have cooked since it ended. Your enjoyment is also stated broadly before one experience is described, and the proposed course could be explained more specifically. Develop these ideas with clear details about your cooking after the course and why an appetizers course would be useful. The purpose is apparent, but some task information remains limited or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a generally understandable order: you introduce your course, describe the tandoor experience, mention cooking practice, and then make a suggestion. Separate paragraphs help distinguish these points, and the closing is appropriate. However, progression is sometimes interrupted by awkward or mechanical links such as “But, here” and “At the last,” while “Hope this information, helps you start with the new sessions soon” does not connect smoothly to the request. Some references are also unclear, particularly “the full session” and “that are related to some appetizers.” Use straightforward transitions and make each paragraph’s main point explicit. This would make the organisation feel more consistently logical and reduce the effort needed to follow the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant course vocabulary, including “tandoor,” “marination,” “appetizers,” and “non veg,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to use more specific language when describing the chef’s instruction. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, including “bring your attention,” “great past experience related to cook,” and “friyer timming.” These can make parts of the message difficult to interpret. Some expressions, such as “each and every step” and “everyday,” are also imprecise in context. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “draw your attention to,” “experienced in cooking,” and “frying time.” A broader set of precise cooking and feedback vocabulary would improve clarity and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually identify the main message. However, the range of structures is limited, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors. Examples include “i had recently completed my first session,” “He suggest me,” and “after that i cook,” where tense or verb forms are not controlled. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “the head cook was great past experience,” as well as punctuation that separates subjects from their clauses, such as “I enjoyed, the full session.” Capitalise “I” consistently and check subject–verb agreement, tense, and sentence boundaries. More accurate basic structures would make your meaning easier to follow.
