Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, some folks think that the main way to be happy in life is have a lot of money because they do not value any other thing beyond money. There are many other things that can make a person happy without money which will be discussed in following paragraphs.

To begin with, money is also very important in life because if we want to buy any basic need for ourselves or for our family we need money first. Without money life is nothing nowadays. Moreover, even relationships are also made on the basis of money how much you have. However, money can make happy to poor people because sometimes they did not get enough money to get some food, even sometimes they starve because of money and those kind of people really deserve the money.

Furthermore, the people who do not care about another person's feelings and they only want to live their own , only those people enjoy money.

Secondly, there are also many other things that can make people happy for example if you believe in helping hand it will be the most happiness moment of life, and if you care about your parents or elders it will also make you happy. Honestly these kind of small things can make a person happy if you are away from materilisitic world.

To conclude, in some ways money is also important and money is also not important because to help someone you also need money and sometimes you can also help someone by your actions which can also make a person happy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how money contributes to happiness and other sources of happiness. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the argument that money is important for basic needs is mentioned, but the explanation remains superficial. The discussion on 'other things' is also brief and lacks concrete examples, relying on general statements like 'helping hand' or 'care about parents'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning or specific illustrations to fully explore the prompt's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed. For instance, the transition between the importance of money and the mention of people who 'do not care about another person's feelings' is abrupt and lacks a clear connection to the main argument. Improving the use of referencing and linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'make a person happy' and 'have a lot of money'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'materilisitic' and the awkward phrasing 'money can make happy to poor people'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations that would demonstrate a higher level of language proficiency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the clarity of the writing. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'without money life is nothing'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'they did not get enough money'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'relationships are also made on the basis of money how much you have'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence punctuation would be beneficial.
