Student answer (Band 6.5)

In 21st century, almost everyone is running after making heaps of money. This is because, in this cutting edge era everybody believes money can buy them happiness. However, i think money alone is not enough to make a people satisfied and happy. I have explained this in the upcoming paragraphs.

'Money can help buying ease in life' Money is an integral part of life, and with money one can buy all the basic things which are necessary for the survival such as: food, clothes and a house. Apart from that, it is also undeniable that not only basic necessities but money can also help in giving some materialistic happiness for example big cars, businesses, houses and so on. For instance, one of my friend is from a prosperous family and he is also in good mood whenever he is around his favourite car .

On the other hand, there are other things as well which comes before money. First and for most is family. Although money can buy material things, good relations can not be bought with money. Family love is unconditional and an individual needs such support in hard times of their life. Moreover, after a certain age having a loving and caring life partner is important for a human being. It not only helps in extending the family but also plays a vital role in fighting with loneliness when parents are no more there.

In the end, i truly believes that money is not the only thing one need to happily survive there life. There should be a perfect mix of money , family, friends and other healthy relationships to live a happy life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how money provides happiness and what other factors contribute to it. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how money provides happiness is quite basic, relying on a list of material items. The example provided regarding a friend and his car is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed reasoning or more sophisticated examples. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall structure could benefit from more nuanced arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the role of money to the importance of non-material factors. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Apart from that', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover', which help the flow. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the use of quotation marks around the phrase 'Money can help buying ease in life' is unnecessary and slightly distracting. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'integral part', 'undeniable', 'prosperous', and 'unconditional'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'help buying ease' (should be 'help to provide comfort') and 'fighting with loneliness' (should be 'combating loneliness'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'happy life' or 'money' used frequently in close proximity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'In 21st century' (missing 'the'), 'one of my friend' (should be 'one of my friends'), and 'there life' (should be 'their lives'). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as inconsistent spacing around commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and proofreading for minor slips in spelling and punctuation.
