Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 168 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the essay introduces the topic and begins to discuss how money brings happiness, the second part of the prompt—discussing other sources of happiness—is barely touched upon before the essay ends abruptly. The ideas presented, such as material possessions and social status, are relevant but remain underdeveloped due to the lack of length and the incomplete nature of the argument. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored with sufficient supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows a basic attempt at logical organization with an introduction and a body paragraph. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the overall coherence. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Firstly', and 'Nevertheless', but they are sometimes used mechanically or in contexts where the following ideas are not fully realized. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of a conclusion and the incomplete second body paragraph make the progression of ideas feel disjointed and unfinished. Improving the structure requires completing the essay with a clear conclusion that summarizes the main points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'indulging sonly activities' (likely meant 'in only') and 'natives can buy all stuff'. The use of 'huge amount of money' and 'name and fame' is somewhat repetitive and informal. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and ensure that your word choices are appropriate for a formal essay context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies on a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there are numerous way that money make human happy' (subject-verb agreement) and 'all this stuff have been providing' (tense usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
