Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how money contributes to happiness and other factors that lead to a happy life. The ideas are relevant, such as financial security and the importance of relationships. However, the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how money leads to happiness is limited to shopping and entrepreneurship, which could be explored with more depth. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the nuance expected for a higher band. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or specific, illustrative examples rather than listing general activities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Starting with', 'Moreover', 'Apart from', and 'To conclude'. However, some of these are used in a slightly mechanical way. There are also issues with referencing and punctuation, such as the inconsistent use of commas and the lack of capitalization for the pronoun 'i'. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple terms like 'good', 'happy', and 'things'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'vocations' (likely meaning 'vacations') and 'health diseases'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations, such as 'financial stability' instead of 'financial security for earning income' or 'well-being' instead of 'happy life'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'if ones donot have'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'for be happy'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and the capitalization of 'i'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and capitalization.
