IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say the main way to be happy in life is to have a lot of money. How might having a lot of money make people happy? What other things in life can make people happy?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In my opinion, having money is really improtant in today's world as people judge your status from this. Nowadays, buying expensive clothing, having cars, and living a life which seems expensive from outside has become a new trend even if people don't have that much to spend. To be honest, having lot of money is a key to a happy life but alone money is not a factor to live happily, many other factors also contribute to be happy.

There are many people having uncountable money and high status but still not having a life which we can say a happy one because most of the time they are either alone with no family or friends or going through stress. There is no peace in their life.

It is important to have few people around you who are with you in good as well as in bad times. Family plays a very important role here, being with family provides you solution for every problem of life. Their support in every situation brings a hope and strength within you to fight and stand still to face anything.

Another factor that plays a vital role in a happy life is your partner. If you have a loving, supportive partner you can face anything in life and can stay happy. It doesn't matter if you have moderate or less money but if you both supports each other the problem seems small. If you have lot of money but the partner is not supportive then life becomes difficult and it becomes hard to seach for happiness. We can take many examples from popular celebrities, they become rich but most of them face issues in their married life due to which they sometimes go through medical conditions.

Another factor to be happy is to have friends who are like another family. Having large group of friends is not necessary rather having a single friend who contributes to your happy life in such a way that you never feel any free space for other people.
