Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing how money can bring happiness through high standards of living and material possessions, as well as alternative sources of happiness such as family and helping others. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, lacking deep elaboration. Furthermore, the student failed to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 249 words, which results in a necessary penalty under this criterion. The conclusion is also incomplete, trailing off with a bracket, which detracts from the overall task fulfilment. Consequently, these weaknesses limit the score to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and an incomplete conclusion. While basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover' are used to structure the text, referencing and logical progression are frequently faulty. For example, the sentence 'the most predicament point is the high standard' contains awkward phrasing and unclear logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs often feels mechanical or repetitive. The abrupt cutoff at the end further disrupts the overall organization, leading to a Band 5.0 rating for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'community', 'survey', and 'population'. However, there are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'most predicament point', 'humans' instead of 'people', and 'brillaint lifesyle'. Spelling errors like 'luxary' and 'impoosible' are also present. While the meaning is generally retrievable despite these inaccuracies, the noticeable errors and restricted vocabulary range restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent reliance on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the response, such as 'Most of the individuals are agree', 'rest of the people thinks', 'these tyoes of people are totally depend', and 'if we wre spending our time with children wife'. Punctuation is also poorly managed, particularly in the incomplete final sentence. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate weak control over complex structures, aligning with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
