Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, as the text is severely incomplete and trails off mid-sentence after addressing only the first part of the prompt regarding how money makes people happy, completely omitting the second part about what else brings happiness. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the student has written only 126 words against the minimum requirement of 250 words. To improve, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully addressed and develop their ideas into fully formed paragraphs that meet the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident through basic transitional markers like 'To being with', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly', showing an attempt to structure the response. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the abrupt ending of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the text lacks a concluding section and suffers from a repetitive structural style in listing points. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to ensure ideas are logically sequenced with a clear overarching progression, supported by accurate and varied cohesive devices rather than mechanical listing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, such as 'financial stability', 'wealth', and 'freedom'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'cheerful' instead of 'cheerful' contextually, 'happly', 'spedn', 'item', 'wise' instead of 'wish', and 'visiting' instead of 'visit'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to word forms and spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple patterns and faulty attempts at complex clauses, such as 'one need to have' and 'money is really plays important part'. Frequent errors occur in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'to being with' and 'for taking small break'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to develop a wider variety of structures with greater accuracy, particularly regarding verb tenses and agreement.
