Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you praise the singer’s voice and describe its effect on you, mention playing piano, drums and guitar and performing at college functions, and ask for help learning techniques. The request is relevant, and the reason for returning to music is introduced. Some details, however, are less fully developed: the musical activities are listed rather than explained, and the kind of help you want could be more specific, such as lessons, practice advice or feedback on your playing. The opening and closing are appropriate, though addressing the singer by name would make the letter feel more personal. Overall, the main purpose is clear, with some ideas needing fuller support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it moves from your reaction to the concert, to your musical background, and then to your request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “However” show an effort to connect ideas. Some links are less smooth or clear, particularly the account of attending because a friend insisted and the shift from past musical activities to wanting to restart. The repeated use of “I” at the start of sentences also makes the flow somewhat mechanical. To strengthen progression, connect each paragraph more explicitly to the purpose of the next—for example, explain how hearing the singer renewed your interest before describing your request.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main message, including relevant terms such as “concert,” “techniques,” “piano,” and “guitar.” There are also attempts at expressive language, such as describing the voice as “soft and relaxing.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “cherish her” does not clearly express why you attended, and “remind my prime days” is not a natural way to describe remembering an earlier period of your life. “Revert me back” is also unsuitable in this context. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check that each verb fits its object and intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer, connected structures, such as the sentence beginning “I was fond of music in my childhood.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors occur frequently enough to sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “one of my insist me to join,” “when i listen your voice,” and “I appreciate it if you help me to teach me,” which show problems with verb forms, sentence construction and grammatical patterns. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and tense choices. Practise building accurate sentences with clauses such as “Although I stopped playing, hearing you perform inspired me to begin again,” and proofread for verb forms, articles and punctuation.
