Student answer (Band 7.0)
Hello Jay,
I hope you are enjoying your vacation. I have a lot to tell you about about the recent concert that I attended last Saturday. I can't wait to share it with you so I am writing it to you.
The concert was organized for the performance of Nick Jonas. It was a blast event I was elated when I entered the stadium. Thousands of people were cheering for him as soon as he started singing. I felt extremely happy for making the decision and not cancelling it. The performance was really up to the mark. The atmosphere was filled with happiness.
As you are not unaware of my love towards music. I have done lots of activities for my passion like, joining local music club helping them organizing street concerts and monthly concerts in the city. I am also taking music classes.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could come to my performance next month on Friday 25. I need your assistance as you have experience of stage shows and how to perform well. You could also help me with my songs and tune selection. Can't wait to meet you.
Hope to see you soon.
Best regards,
Sonam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly express your feelings about the performance, describe your musical activities, and make a specific request for help. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, although the opening is slightly confusing as you address the letter to 'Jay' but discuss a concert by 'Nick Jonas'. Ensure that your details are consistent throughout the letter. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As you are not unaware' and 'It would be greatly appreciated', which help the flow of the text. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'I can't wait to share it with you so I am writing it to you.' Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion and make the progression of ideas feel more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'elated', 'up to the mark', and 'greatly appreciated'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'a blast event' (which is not standard English) and 'my love towards music' (should be 'love for music'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, incorporating more precise collocations would elevate your writing to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing it to you' (unnecessary 'it'), 'As you are not unaware' (a double negative that is slightly confusing), and 'experience of stage shows' (should be 'experience with'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor errors in sentence construction. The errors do not impede communication, but more consistent control over complex structures is needed for a higher score.
