Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir,
i am writing about the singer who perfume very well in concert. Last week, i went red concert with my brothers because we were free from our work that time Babbu Maan came in red concert and he sing punjabi song which named Maa. Actually his song was very emotional and attached with mother loves. Everyone enjoyed his song because he sing this song with guitar and harmonium.
I would write a letter to concert owner regarding the that celebrity that sing a song related to culture so they need to keep huge amount of money for his celebrity for this concert so people love to visit in concerts and listen that kind of songs. Along with this, they should keep a lot of competition between people like to operate guitar and harmonium so people can show their interest infront of others. So i will wait for your further step.
your faithfully,
Gagandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses the prompt, but there are significant issues with task fulfillment. While you mention your feelings about the performance, you fail to provide details about your own musical activities as requested. Instead, you shift the focus to giving advice to the 'concert owner' about how to manage future events. This is a misunderstanding of the prompt, which asks how the singer could help you with your own musical pursuits. Consequently, the third bullet point is not addressed in relation to your personal musical goals. To improve, ensure you directly answer every part of the instructions provided in the bullet points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is divided into two paragraphs, which is a reasonable structure. However, the progression of ideas is often confusing. For example, the transition from describing the singer's performance to giving business advice to the concert owner is abrupt and lacks logical connection. Cohesive devices are limited and sometimes used incorrectly, such as 'regarding the that celebrity'. The use of referencing is also weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. Using more varied linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help improve the flow between your sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is quite basic and contains several errors in word choice and collocation. Phrases like 'perfume very well' (likely meant 'performed') and 'attached with mother loves' are unnatural and impede clarity. You rely on simple, repetitive language throughout the letter. To achieve a higher band score, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to music and personal expression. Focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—rather than translating directly from your native language, which often leads to awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tense ('he sing punjabi song'), article usage ('in red concert'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the lack of capitalization for 'i' and the incorrect closing 'your faithfully'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors requires the reader to work harder to interpret your message. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
