Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Diljeet,

The purpose of my writing today is to inform you about a concert that was in Vancouver.

It was such a good environment at the concert. The opening ceremony was really super decent, and everybody was enjoying and dancing. The musical team performed really well. The concert was sold out. it was happen in the

There were numerous musical activities; first of all, the bhangra team was performing really well, as well as background music providing such good beats.

Overall, the event was good, but some issues can be fixed in the upcoming concert. Everybody was saying the background music was so loud; moreover, some people were not able to hear your voice clearly. I would like to give you some suggestions: you have to add more musical activities in the next event.

I am looking forward to seeing from you.

Yours sincerely,

kulwinder

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to address all parts of the prompt. While you mention the performance, you completely neglect to describe your own musical activities or explain how you would like the singer to help you with them. The prompt specifically asks for these details, and their absence significantly impacts the task completion. Furthermore, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which is a penalty factor. To improve, ensure you dedicate a paragraph to each bullet point in the instructions and expand on your personal connection to music to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter has a basic structure with an opening and closing, but the internal flow is disjointed. The paragraphing is inconsistent, and there is a lack of logical progression between ideas. For example, the transition from discussing the concert environment to your own musical activities is missing, as you never actually discuss your activities. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical way, such as 'first of all' and 'moreover', which do not always connect the ideas naturally. To improve, use linking words to create a smoother narrative flow and ensure each paragraph focuses on one clear topic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'really super decent' and 'event was good' are informal and lack the precision expected in an IELTS task. You rely on basic adjectives and struggle to find more sophisticated ways to describe the concert experience or your musical interests. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'it was happen in the', which is grammatically incorrect and impacts clarity. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and topic-specific vocabulary related to music and performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'it was happen in the' (incorrect tense/structure) and 'seeing from you' (incorrect preposition). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the lack of complex sentence structures limits your range. To improve, focus on using a variety of sentence types, including subordinate clauses, and pay closer attention to verb tenses and prepositional usage to ensure your writing is accurate and professional.
