Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly express your admiration for the singer's performance, describe your own musical activities, and explain how you would like him to help you. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer. However, the final bullet point regarding how you would like him to help you is slightly underdeveloped; you mention your activities but do not explicitly state what kind of help or advice you are seeking from him. Expanding on this specific request would have made the response more complete and better aligned with the requirements for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'also', 'my favourite part', and 'once again' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used correctly, which helps the reader follow your thoughts easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'appreciation', 'outstanding', 'unforgettable', and 'atmosphere'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'interested in own music' which is slightly unnatural. While you successfully convey your message, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items related to music and performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'i am writing to express...' and 'the way you connected with the audience made the whole experience unforgettable.' However, there are consistent issues with capitalization, specifically the failure to capitalize the pronoun 'I' throughout the letter. Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the spacing before commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic mechanics will significantly improve your accuracy.
