Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Talyor,

I hope this you are doing well. I am writing to express my emotions that I enjoyed your performace last year in Toronto.

Your performace was unbeliveable and fantastic. I was so impressed by your voice, outfit and moves that you performed. In particular, your performance on "Love Story" song was unforgetable. The atmosphere of the stadium was an incredible throughout the concert.

Music palys an important role in my daily life. I usually listen your songs while travelling, cooking, and exercising to relax my self after a busy day. Your music lift up my mood very instantly, and feels energetic. Additionally, I would love to sing lyrics of your songs along with your music at home.

Although , I don't have any profeesional musical experience but if you could help me with by recommending some easy song to practise. I would also appreciate any small tips on improving my singing understanding more deeply.

Thank you for being such an inspiration.

Yours faithfully,

Krupa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly express your feelings about the concert, describe your musical habits, and make a specific request for help. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail regarding the specific musical activities you engage in, such as mentioning if you play an instrument or have had any formal training, which would further flesh out your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In particular', 'Additionally', and 'Although' to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with paragraph structure, such as the opening sentence 'I hope this you are doing well' which is grammatically awkward. Improving the flow between sentences would help to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'unbelievable', 'impressed', and 'inspiration'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'performace' (performance), 'unbeliveable' (unbelievable), 'unforgetable' (unforgettable), 'palys' (plays), and 'profeesional' (professional). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading your work to catch these common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations to express your enthusiasm for the music.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I hope this you are doing well', 'I usually listen your songs' (missing 'to'), 'my music lift up my mood' (subject-verb agreement), and 'help me with by recommending'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
