Student answer (Band 7.0)
DEAR SIDHU,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to show my viewpoints about your recent concert, which was held last week in Sudbury.
I often go for music concerts because I like to spend my free time with music. Luckily, last week I gor chance to attend your music show in my hometown. I went overthere with classmates, and that was an unforgettable experience for us because we were enjoyed this concert.
Moreover, your performance was very good, specially your first song which you were sang at the begining. In addition, you also danced very well, and all my classmates enjoyed that. I am big fan of you and I often sings your song whenever I get chance to perform.
Although, I trying to become sin ger like you, still I need some improvements to enhance my musical skills. Could you please help me and give some musical tips so that I preform better next time.
Thank you for your time and I look forword to your reply.
Best wishes,
Maan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly expressed your feelings about the concert, described your musical activities, and made a specific request for help. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, maintaining a friendly and respectful register throughout. While the ideas are relevant, they could be developed slightly more to reach a higher band; for instance, providing more specific details about your musical activities beyond just singing would add depth. However, the task is fully covered, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning to the end.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Although' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in sentence structure, such as 'I went overthere with classmates, and that was an unforgettable experience'. Paragraphing is used, but the transition between the description of the concert and your personal musical goals could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. You use some relevant terms like 'unforgettable experience', 'musical skills', and 'performance'. However, there are several word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'gor' instead of 'got', 'overthere' instead of 'over there', and 'sin ger' instead of 'singer'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more varied collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'we were enjoyed this concert' (passive voice error), 'which you were sang' (incorrect tense), and 'I trying to become' (missing auxiliary verb). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage, particularly when describing past events.
