Student answer (Band 8.0)

Dear Mr. Sonu Nigam,

I hope you are doing well. It was exceptionally well watching you perform on the mangificent night of 18th August 2026. I am writing this letter to let you know that I deeply admired your performance and I would like to take some time to appreciate your marvellous talent.

Although, this was not the first time I attended your concert, but I must say that this was the best concert until this date. The energy and aura you brought to the stage was beyond my imagination. The performance was highly emotional and the overall ambience was breathtaking.

Moreover, I would like to draw your attention towards my unwavering passion for music, likewise yours. I am not being adamant about this but I am an incredibly great drummer. I bring a dedicated experience of about 5 years and along with that two proffesional degrees in fine arts being a gold medalist in both.

It would be my pleasure if I can seize this opportunity to perform with you in your upcoming concert in Jaipur. In addition to that I have attached my qualifications, experience letter and social media handles for you to examine my talent and kindly let me know your valuable feedback.

I wish to hear from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Priyanka

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly express your admiration for the performance, provide relevant details about your musical background as a drummer, and make a specific request for collaboration. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a public figure. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. You have maintained a consistent focus throughout the letter, and the purpose of your communication is clear from the beginning to the end. No parts of the task were omitted, and the response is well-structured to meet the needs of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the appreciation of the concert to your personal background and finally to your request. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition to that', and 'Although' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of information is smooth. The use of referencing is clear, and the letter maintains a professional tone throughout, which contributes to the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using words like 'marvellous', 'unwavering', 'adamant', and 'breathtaking' appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'exceptionally well watching' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'proffesional' (spelling error). However, these do not impede communication. You show an ability to use more sophisticated vocabulary, which is a positive sign. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that collocations are entirely natural and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy, particularly with words like 'professional'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'Although, this was not the first time I attended your concert, but I must say...' where the use of 'Although' and 'but' in the same sentence is redundant. Additionally, 'I am not being adamant about this' is slightly awkward in this context. Despite these minor errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control of punctuation and tense is generally good. The grammar does not interfere with the clarity of your message.
