Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to you regarding your concert that was very well and in the end I enjoyed it a lot. Let me discuss bit more.
To begin with, I want to say in the concert I had been feeling amazing at and I believe that was one of your best performances of yours. Although all music is nice you were great last night so I decided to learn me if you have time because I want to follow your way.
Moreover, I have to say I have been training in an effort to learn to sing for about six years and during this time I can improve my knowledge and my ability. However, I think I must grow up more and more with your help. Please aim to me if you can spend time with me. For instance, I have a rich family and we can support you as sponsors and you help me to find my way as a teacher.
With deepest gratitude and admiration.
Your Faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: expressing your feelings about the performance, describing your musical background, and requesting help. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The request for help is slightly awkward, particularly the suggestion of a sponsorship arrangement, which feels a bit unrealistic for a fan-to-singer letter. To improve, ensure your tone is consistently appropriate for the context—in this case, a polite and appreciative letter to a performer. While you covered the requirements, the ideas could be expanded with more natural phrasing to better convey your genuine enthusiasm and specific musical goals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Let me discuss bit more,' which feels unnatural. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions naturally into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and unnatural collocations, such as 'learn me' instead of 'mentor me' or 'teach me,' and 'grow up more' when you likely mean 'develop my skills.' The phrase 'aim to me' is also incorrect in this context. To improve, try to learn common collocations related to music and professional requests. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives would also help you express your admiration for the concert more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of your writing. Examples include 'your concert that was very well' (should be 'very good'), 'performances of yours' (redundant), and 'I have been training in an effort to learn to sing' (wordy). There are also issues with verb forms and prepositions, such as 'I can improve my knowledge' (should be 'have improved'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the writing from being considered highly accurate.
