Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir ,
I am writing this letter to express my feelings regarding your performance in the concert that you did recently in the national park . I really liked your performance, they way you sang the songs was very different then the other signers and the choices of the songs was also very amazing . I was in the crowd and enjoy each one of your songs because you created energetic vibes in the concert .
I also like to play music and writing songs . As, i have recently join the music classes in which they teach me how to play different instruments and how to sing songs with good vocals . These sessions helping me allot to fix my breaking points while i sing .
I will really appreciate if you also help me to do better in my song writing as well as creating different sound variations in your academy because your music school is famous for these particular things . I hope you will view my letter and understand my feeling towards your music . I will wait for your response . Thank you in anticipation .
Your Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly express your feelings about the concert, describe your musical activities, and explain how you would like the singer to assist you. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a performer, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is a bit formal given the context of a fan writing to a singer. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is established more naturally in the opening.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I also', 'As', and 'I will really appreciate', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'they way' instead of 'the way'. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics, which makes the letter easy to follow. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'energetic', 'variations', and 'anticipation'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'different then' (should be 'different from'), 'signers' (should be 'singers'), and 'breaking points' (which is not the standard term for vocal technique). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. Focusing on common collocations related to music and performance would help elevate your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the choices of the songs was' (subject-verb agreement), 'i have recently join' (tense error), and 'These sessions helping me' (missing auxiliary verb). Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i' and the incorrect closing 'Your Faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
