Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear AP Dhillon.
I hope you are in high spirits. Actually I am writing this letter to you. I recently saw your performance in my town and I want to shear some my enjoyment movement. As well I wish if you could help with learning how to play the guitar and piano.
When I was at the concert i saw you with full of energy that is next level. The performace you gave that day was unforgettable. I wanna see you once again in my future. Moreover, Most important thing you play the guitar very fluent and easily without any errors. Now i am fan of your guitar too. Although, I never play guitar before nut now i am practicing it. Unfortunately, I am still struggling with it. I found it is really hard to learn without any tutor or guidance. That is why i want you to be my mentor for my musical future. I basically play piano, drums and i can sing very well. If you can assist me with further to learn how can i brush up my musical skills. if you could i really be thankful. One more thing about your concert was i like the last performance song you delivered in full mood that makes everyone crazy.
I wish if i could meet you soon. if you have chance please look at it once. Please give me a chance to be you student and hope you performe again give me chance to see you again. I really appreciate for if you contact me back.
warm regards
Kran.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly express your feelings about the performance, describe your musical background (piano, drums, singing), and explain your request for mentorship. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, although it is slightly informal. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, while you mention your musical activities, you could provide more specific details about your current level or experience to make the request for mentorship sound more professional and convincing. Overall, the task requirements are met effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'As well I wish' or 'Although, I never play'. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') rather than relying on simple conjunctions. Referencing is generally clear, but the structure of some sentences makes the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed at times. Improving the variety of transitions will help achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'unforgettable', 'mentor', and 'guidance'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'shear some my enjoyment movement' (share some of my enjoyment) and 'play the guitar very fluent' (fluently). Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'performe' and 'nut' (not). To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your word choices are precise and grammatically correct in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms ('I never play' instead of 'I have never played'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'I wish if you could' is grammatically incorrect; 'I would be grateful if you could' would be more accurate. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on consistent tense usage and correct sentence construction will significantly improve your accuracy.
